BlackLivesMatter

What does BlackLivesMatter mean?

BlackLivesMatter is a raised fist. Chat posts it as solidarity, during a benefit stream, or when the words are the point of the message. It is an official global so the phrase renders as an emote instead of text someone can scroll past. It is not a reaction to a play.

Origin

Twitch added the fist to the global set in 2020. The art is a fist, often read in Twitch purple, not a photo and not a meme face. Use it the way you would type the words. Do not drop it as decoration on a clutch.

When to use BlackLivesMatter

• A benefit, a charity stream, or a creator talking about the movement
• Solidarity in chat when that is actually what you mean
• Not as hype, not as sarcasm, not next to a gameplay emote for flavor
• If you would not say the phrase, do not post the emote
